There are so many inspiring podcasts with fabulous stars out there. But their careers feel light years away from ours, don’t they? Wouldn’t it be great to hear from the guy who just booked his first pilot? Or the kid finally doing a studio pic after a bunch of low budget indies? Or the woman who’s been a series regular a few times but is only now becoming a name? What about the guy who’s been on a show for years and you know his face but what’shisnameagain? Or that actress who is now a freakin’ showrunner???? How’d THEY do it, right? How did they transition from relative obscurity, bartending and bottle service, to buying that house in Brentwood? We’re producing “Kahnversations,” a podcast that provides access to THOSE people -- your immediate predecessors -- so that you can learn from them while their battle scars are still fresh.

In “Kahnversations,” our own Ryan Bailey interviews some of Lesly Kahn & Company’s working actors, directors, and writers in order to learn how they got started in Hollywood, the challenges and hurdles they faced, and how they overcame the odds. (They also dish out some crazy stories!) Listen in and enjoy as these entertainers speak candidly about their paths, processes, and experiences. You might even hear a bit about how Lesly and the Kahnstitute have influenced and shaped their careers.

New "Kahnversations" Podcast with
Actor
Tristen J. Winger!

Tristen J. Winger made his television acting debut in Issa Rae's HBO Original Series, "Insecure." Winger portrays the character of "Thug Yoda," an intimidating, yet comedic and loving father who also happens to be a local gang member. As Issa's neighbor in the series, Winger's character provides both "Yoda-like" wisdom as well as the occasional comedic relief throughout the show.

Born and raised in South Los Angeles, Winger became immersed in the arts at an early age. In 2000, he was enrolled in The Colburn School of Performing Arts and later joined the Amazing Grace Conservatory where he was inspired to develop his skills in acting, voice, and dance. Years later, Tristen landed a role on the critically acclaimed web series, "The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl" as the unknowingly soft-spoken character, baby-voiced "Darius".

He enjoys spending his off screen time writing, traveling, producing music, and impersonating characters and people from everyday life. Winger recognizes and credits his passion and growing success to his mother, a retired touring ballroom dancer who consistently sought out activities to foster his creative development.

New "Kahnversations" Podcast with
Actor
Matt Czuchry!

Matt Czuchry graduated from College of Charleston with Summa Cum Laude honors, and B.A degrees in the disciplines of both History and Political Science.  In his senior year at the College, Matt was presented with The Bishop Robert Smith Award.  This award is the highest honor given to a graduating senior and represents valued contributions in academics, sports, and leadership within the Charleston community.

Throughout his acting career from 1999-present, Matt has worked alongside Oscar winners, Tony winners, and Emmy winners.  And during that time, Czuchry has found a way to make his own mark on the arts. For his work on The Resident, Czuchry was honored in 2020 with the Entertainment Weekly/SCAD Maverick Award. The Resident has also been nominated for two Teen Choice Awards, and Matt has been nominated for three Teen Choice awards for his work as Logan Huntzberger in the series Gilmore Girls.  For his work on The Good Wife (where ironically Matt played a lawyer with exceptional Law School Admission Test scores) he was nominated for three consecutive Screen Actors Guild Ensemble Awards in 2011, 2012, 2013, he won the Entertainment Weekly Best Supporting Actor Award in 2011, and Czuchry was also selected to both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety Magazine’s prestigious Emmy Contenders list for 2015.

Czuchry’s Charleston education came to a pinnacle in 2018 when he gave the commencement address to that year's College of Charleston graduating class.  His commencement address was noted in Teen Vogue as one of the standout speeches of 2018 along with Oprah Winfrey and Apple CEO Tim Cook.  That same year the College of Charleston recognized Matt with an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters.  This humbling honor completed Matt’s journey from college graduate with crap LSAT scores and an unclear path forward, to an established actor contributing on the highest level to the arts.

New Podcast with Actor Matt Czuchry!

In this episode of "Kahnversations," we interview Matt Czuchry.

After graduating college in May of 1999 with B.A. degrees in History and Political Science from College of Charleston, Matt was set on law school as his next life path.  But when thinking of his true passion, he was brought back to the indelible memories of his childhood.  Moments etched on his heart such as exiting a dilapidated movie theatre crying inconsolably after experiencing E.T.: THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL, or running around in his purple dyed underwear smashing couches while watching THE INCREDIBLE HULK on TV.  When thinking of his adult life, Czuchry could not ignore the magical moments captured through story, imagination, and character that had impacted his youth with such pure happiness.

This childlike love of movies and television, combined with his horrible Law School Admission Test scores, pushed Matt’s gut towards an unexpected career choice.  In September of 1999, Czuchry took one of the most important risks of his life and decided to pursue a profession in acting.  On a perfectly nondescript Wednesday morning, Matt filled his car with everything he owned and left his hometown in Tennessee for a new life in California.  Since completing that life changing drive from Johnson City to Los Angeles, Czuchry has worked with Oscar® winners, Emmy® winners, and Tony Award® winners, while establishing himself as a leading man through credits spanning theatre, television, and film.

Just one month after arriving on the West Coast, Matt found himself working with actor James Franco and writers Paul Feig, Mike White, and Judd Apatow in a small role on the critical darling FREAKS AND GEEKS.  Czuchry’s work on the classic fan favorite would turn into a major guest starring arc in the DAWSON'S CREEK spinoff series titled YOUNG AMERICANS, starring actress Kate Bosworth.  Although this show itself was short lived, Matt’s work on the project would garner the necessary attention to further his early career with the best creative minds in the business on television shows such as David E. Kelley’s THE PRACTICE and films like EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS, starring Scarlett Johansson.

Two key television series, HACK and GILMORE GIRLS, would propel Czuchry’s early career towards leading man status.  While playing swindling thief Jamie Farrel on the series HACK from 2003-2004, Matt was able to hone his craft by learning from the show’s stars, Drama Desk Award winner David Morse and Emmy® winner Andre Braugher.  His work on HACK readied Czuchry for his breakout performance on the critically acclaimed hit GILMORE GIRLS.  From 2005-2007 Matt embodied the role of billionaire newspaper heir Logan Huntzberger.  For his work on the beloved series, Czuchry would go on to be nominated for three Teen Choice awards while gaining press in countless magazines and popularity on television sets across the globe.

After completing his three year run on GILMORE GIRLS in 2007, Czuchry matured in his craft by choosing work in different genres spanning theatre, television, and film.  In September of 2007, Czuchry was on stage in the title role of Third, alongside Oscar® winner Christine Lahti, in Wendy Wasserstein’s West Coast premier of the play by the same name.  He followed this performance at the Geffen Theatre with a recurring arc on the Emmy® winning series FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS.  In 2008, Matt took on the controversial lead character of Tucker Max in the movie adaptation of the New York Times best selling book, I HOPE THEY SERVE BEER IN HELL.  Although the public’s response to the comedy was divisive, Czuchry’s performance was lauded by critics such as Owen Gleiberman in Entertainment Weekly who wrote, “Matt Czuchry, in a star performance, plays Tucker like a Ferris Bueller who bloomed into a charming sociopath.” Czuchry’s varied performances and choices across all genres in different mediums from 2007-2008 led to an offer to play the role of a manipulative lawyer in the two-time Emmy® nominated THE GOOD WIFE.

Matt's seven seasons as Cary Agos on CBS Television’s THE GOOD WIFE (2009-2016) firmly established him as a leading man and a rising star while also earning him prestigious recognition from both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety’s annual Emmy® Contenders lists in 2015. Prior to these honors Czuchry won the Entertainment Weekly Best Supporting Actor EWwy Award (2011), received nominations for three consecutive SAG Ensemble Awards (2009-2011), and also garnered the highest praises from numerous critics such as David Hiltbrand of The Philadelphia Inquirer who wrote “Czuchry may be the best young actor on TV.”  Matt Richenthal of TV Fanatic further affirmed those sentiments by stating, “Cary is played brilliantly by Czuchry with the right combination of swagger, confidence, and vulnerability.”  Matt’s tireless dedication to his craft on THE GOOD WIFE, and over the course of his career, led to a defining performance on one of TV’s best shows while working alongside multiple-award winners Archie Panjabi, Christine Baranski, Julianna Margulies, Chis Noth, Josh Charles, Alan Cumming, Michael J. Fox, Matthew Perry, and F. Murray Abraham.

In 1999, Matt Czuchry took a life changing risk by following his passion and gut to pursue his love of story, imagination, and character.  Today, Czuchry surrounds himself with the great talents of stage, television, and film on some of the most desirable projects in the entertainment industry, in an effort to make his own indelible mark on the hearts of others.  As Matt continues to tirelessly study his craft, he sets his sights on even greater career heights.  Knowing that his past work has laid the groundwork for future success, but each new performance and project choice demands an even better excellence.

New Podcast with Actor Angel Parker!

In this episode of "Kahnversations," we interview Angel Parker.

Sophisticated, hard-working, and an undeniable talent, Angel has brought to life some of the most dynamic and diverse characters on screen today.  She was most recently seen starring on FX’s critically acclaimed Emmy Award winning series THE PEOPLE V. OJ SIMPSON: AMERICAN CRIME STORY. Angel was a scene stealer as famed celebrity attorney Shawn Chapman, one of Simpson’s “Dream Team” lawyers.

Angel can be seen recurring on NBC’s highly anticipated series TRIAL & ERROR, opposite John Lithgow.  TRIAL & ERROR takes a comedic turn on a murder trial similar to the recent documentary, MAKING A MURDERER.  Angel joins the cast as Heidi Baker, a perky Carolina newscaster who is following the Larry Henderson [Lithgow] murder case and reports on the case’s many unexpected twists and turns. The series premiered on March 14, 2017.

Angel can also be seen recurring on BET’s REBEL, which follows Rebecca “Rebel” Cole (Danielle Moné Truitt), a diligent African-American police officer turned rogue private investigator after her brother is slain by the police. Angel plays Stella Parker, Rebel’s union-appointed attorney who tries to do her best “lawyering” when Internal Affairs is tasked with investigating Rebel’s shooting of a fellow officer. In addition, Angel will recur as Alex Green on the final season of FX’s horror series, THE STRAIN, airing later in 2017.

Angel has already been cast as Catherine Wilder in Marvel’s RUNAWAYS, which will air on HULU in 2018.

Angel’s first acting gig was on Joss Whedon’s television show ANGEL. Since then, she has appeared on some of the most buzzed about series including: ER, CASTLE, CRIMINAL MINDS, THE CLOSER, THE SOUL MAN, and SEAN SAVES THE WORLD.  Angel is also well known for her role as the intrepid and vivacious Tasha Davenport on five seasons of Disney XD’s live-action comedy series LAB RATS.

At only 16 years old, Angel was accepted into the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. There, she immersed herself in performing, and went on to study Shakespeare at the British American Drama Academy; work with the Independent Shakespeare Company, Will & Company; and perform with The Blank Theatre’s Young Playwrights Festival for more than 10 years. She continues to hone her craft at Lesly Kahn & Co., where she is a proud member of the professional class and serves on the faculty.

Angel currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two children.

New Podcast with Actor India de Beaufort!

In this episode of "Kahnversations," we interview India de Beaufort.

India was born in a small suburb on the outskirts of London, England. It’s called Surbiton. If you’ve heard of Wimbledon, where the tennis happens, you still haven’t heard of Surbiton. It’s one town over. India’s mum, dancer/choreographer Karen de Beaufort, tried her darnedest to deter India from the entertainment industry at a very young age, but India completely ignored her mother and pulled out the jazz hands anyway, receiving her first (background acting) credit at 9 years old.

At the age of 15, India joined the BAFTA-nominated BASIL BRUSH SHOW, where she made a ton of mistakes and expected to be fired daily. She miraculously held on to the gig until she was cast in David Schwimmer’s feature RUN FAT BOY RUN, at 18, not long after she made the move from London to Los Angeles, and consequently began hoarding British tea bags. With no formal training, India’s godsend of a manager Tom Drumm (thank the heavens) sent her to miracle worker Lesly Kahn, who got her on her first US series, and has been screaming at her ever since (thanks Les). Since landing in LA, India has jumped around as a regular, recurring and guest star on multiple live action and animated series, most recently shooting the pilot GOSPEL OF KEVIN for ABC, and wrapping up season 6 of Netflix’s ALL HAIL KING JULIEN. However, the best thing she got from Lesly Kahn (slash all of America) is her husband, fellow LK&Co. client Todd Grinnell, who can currently be seen crushing the role of Schneider on Netflix’s ONE DAY AT A TIME. #Proud.

An LA native, Briana was raised by two psychologist parents (it’s not what you think!). She is known for her recurring roles on Freeform’s YOUNG AND HUNGRY, NBC's THE NEW NORMAL, Freeform’s SWITCHED AT BIRTH and the lead role in Disney’s BEVERLY HILLS CHIHUAHUA 3.

New Podcast with Actor/Writer Tyler Poelle!

In this episode of "Kahnversations," we interview Tyler Poelle.

Tyler was born and raised in Northern California. He enrolled at Occidental College as a pre-med student, but quickly learned that he wanted to be on the TV show ‘ER,’ not in an ER. Tyler corrected his course and graduated with a BFA in acting from Carnegie Mellon University, where he developed a love for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the art of Andy Warhol.

After doing classical, regional and avant-garde-downtown-super-weird theater in New York City, he moved to Los Angeles. He’s told jokes on many network multi and single camera sitcoms, he’s cried and been terrified on many network and cable dramas. He’s even made out with a bunch of folks in indie movies! One of his favorite weeks on set was working with and befriending the incomparable Betty White, a childhood hero and true genius. Having played a ‘doctor’ and getting to ‘be on a spaceship,’ the only thing left in his boyhood acting-trifecta-dream is to play a ‘cowboy.’ Yes, he can ride a horse. And no, nobody has asked... yet.

Commercially, Tyler has been seen pitching products for Liberty Mutual, Schwab, Audi, Wendy's, Dunkin' Donuts, Budweiser, AT&T, Progresso, Nature Valley, Amazon, Applebees, Yahoo, and many more. He's keeping his eyes out for a pharmaceutical company that wants someone who can tell jokes and then bring a hint of sadness. Fingers crossed.

Tyler’s first feature film script to be produced and theatrically released as a writer was PRICELESS, a dark tale set inside the sex trafficking business in the Southwest. Two other feature scripts, A WOLF AT THE DOOR, a father’s story of recovery and redemption, and BROTHER’S KEEPER, a multi-generational betrayal story, are currently being shopped around.

As the proud single father to his daughter, Aurora, Tyler spends an enormous amount of time pretending to be any number of various princesses. An independent panel of scientists has agreed that Aurora is the smartest and most captivating little girl on planet Earth.

Tyler writes and records music in the band, "Petrov, the Hero," loves origami, and has a mild obsession with lemon bars. If you spend enough time with Tyler, you'll surely hear him say, "Everything will always be okay, forever." And not for nothing, it's totally true. He'll also be drinking sparkling water out of a rocks glass with a lime during that conversation.

Actor/Producer Glenn Powell from EVERYBODY WANTS SOME, SCREAM QUEENS, RIDE ALONG 2 and THE EXPENDABLES 3!!!

New Podcast with Actor Glen Powell!

In this installation of "Kahnversations," we interview Glen Powell. Recently described by The Hollywood Reporter as the “Next Big Thing,” Glen Powell is well on his way to becoming one of tinsel towns’ most sought after actors.

Glen just finished filming the FOX feature HIDDEN FIGURES. Powell will star as famed astronaut John Glenn in the historically focused film. The plot centers on a group of women responsible for providing NASA with important statistical data needed to launch the program’s first successful space mission. Powell will share the screen with Kevin Costner, Kristen Dunst, Jim Parsons, Taraji P. Henson and Octavia Spencer. The film is currently slated for a January 2017 release.

Up next for Powell is the second season of the FOX hit SCREAM QUEENS. Powell will reprise his fan favorite role of Chad Radwell, President of the Dickie Dollars Scholars. The Ryan Murphy show proved to be a critic and fan favorite among the Fall 2015 freshman class. Also upcoming for Powell is THE SET UP, starring opposite Emilia Clarke. The MGM film is currently in pre-production but slated for a 2017 release.

This past December, Powell wrapped production on the Iraq War drama SAND CASTLE. Further proving his acting chops, Powell will star opposite action heavy weights Henry Cavil, Nicholas Holt and Luke Evans. The film follows an American military unit on a mission to repair a water system in the turbulent Iraqi village of Baqubah. Powell plays Sgt. Falvy, a tough-minded and foul-mouthed solider hailing from the south. The film is slated for a late 2016 release.

2016 is proving to be the year of Powell as he has been featured in two major motion pictures including April’s critically acclaimed film EVERYBODY WANTS SOME, directed by Richard Linklater. The Paramount Pictures’ film, set in the '80’s, follows a college freshman who rolls with some colorful baseball players. The highly anticipated film is being referred to as the spiritual sequel to Linklater’s cult classic film “Dazed And Confused.” Additionally, Glen was seen in January’s comedy RIDE ALONG 2, opposite funnyman Kevin Hart and Ice Cube, portraying a lethal drug-lord on the streets of Atlanta. Powell will be seen in BEYOND DECEIT, alongside silver screen royalty Sir Anthony Hopkins and Al Pacino. The independent film is slated for a late 2016 release.

In 2014, Glen co-starred with Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson, Jason Statham and Harrison Ford in THE EXPENDABLES 3. He joined the ranks as an expert hacker and drone pilot named Thron, singular to none in his intensity and agility. Powell was also seen in the independent thriller, WIND WALKERS, from director Russell Friendenberg. Other film credits include the independent comedy SEX ED, opposite Hayley Joel Osment, RED WING, starring alongside Bill Paxton, as well as the final installment of the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, opposite Christian Bale, Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway.

This November, he will be honored as a rising star at the Napa Valley Film Festival.

When not in production, Glen resides in Los Angeles.

For the past few years, Ginifer has played the frazzled, big city in a small town single mother Michelle Hathaway on Nickelodeon’s THE HAUNTED HATHAWAYS. She began her career at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, where she was discovered by NYC casting director Jim Carnahan who cast her in the upcoming Broadway revival of GYPSY, starring Bernadette Peters and directed by Sam Mendes. Ginifer went on to play the title role of Gypsy Rose Lee numerous times opposite Ms. Peters. Other Broadway credits include Shelby in STEEL MAGNOLIAS, opposite Delta Burke and Christine Ebersole, and as Sister Claire in CYRANO DE BERGERAC with Kevin Kline, who also, incidentally, was her Secret Santa that year. After moving to LA, she guest starred on numerous network procedurals as mistresses, embezzling secretaries and, of course, serial killers. For the past five years she has simultaneously been a part of the LA based company “For the Record”, a live - 360 degree theatrical experience bringing the movies of such directors as Tarantino, Baz Lurhmann, the Coen Brothers, and Scorsese to life through their soundtracks. She spent this past summer performing the FOR THE RECORD: BAZ show, partnered with Cirque de Soleil. She entered from the ceiling on a swing and there was glitter involved – she was in heaven.

New "Kahnversations" Podcast with Actor
Todd Stashwick!

In this special, post Comi-Con installation of "Kahnversations," we interview Todd Stashwick, star of Syfy Channel's 12 MONKEYS. Todd’s first professional dream was realized at a young age when he was hired to tour the country with Chicago’s famous The Second City.

Following productions at The Second City Detroit and The Second City Northwest, Todd moved to New York. There, he formed a company of improvisers and began staging the underground critically acclaimed BURN MANHATTAN all over the city. Other performers often included Kate Walsh and Jeremy Piven.

Work in television and film drew him to Los Angeles where he shot several pilots, series and recurring work. Todd has been seen in such films as the Blumhouse Thriller, MOCKINGBIRD; YOU, ME AND DUPREE; SURFER DUDE; THE AIR I BREATHE; and LIVE!. In addition, he starred in the independent film TO BE FRIENDS, written and directed by Jim Eckhart and produced by Aaron Eckhart, which opened The Boston Film Festival. He will soon be seen in JANE GOT A GUN opposite Natalie Portman and Ewan McGregor.

Most notably, Todd is known for his role as Dale in the FX series THE RICHES opposite Minnie Driver and Eddie Izzard. Other favorites include SUPERNATURAL, portraying Bela Lugosi's Dracula, and roles in such shows as GOTHAM (recurring), ORIGINALS (recurring), HEROES (recurring), WEEDS (recurring), TEEN WOLF (recurring), JUSTIFIED (recurring), BURN NOTICE (recurring), as well as comedies like THE EXES, DHARMA AND GREG and WILL AND GRACE. He was excited to be part of the Seinfeld reunion episodes of CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM where he played NBC president Sandy Goodman.

In addition to acting Todd has launched several writing projects over the last few years, including the web-comic strip DEVIL INSIDE (a collaboration with writer/artist Dennis Calero). He also sold and developed a pilot for Syfy that he wrote with Dennis Calero. Realizing another dream, he is currently co-writer on the STAR WARS video game for Visceral games and Electronic Arts, headed by the influential game developer and director, Amy Hennig.

Todd enjoys surfing, is a vicious cinefile and loves to travel. He has a minor obsession with turn of the century Coney Island. A shameless geek, he’s an avid gamer and lover of comic books, sci-fi and horror. His love of improv remains strong and he continues to perform and teach at festivals, both at home and abroad. He lives with his family and too many pets in the Los Angeles area.
